Holger Oijens, Exodus

£695.00 £895.00

This mid-century oil on canvas by Swedish artist and poet Holger Oijens (1907-2004) conjures up imagery of industrial demise and rebirth. It’s titled ‘Exodus’ and could potentially depict a dove emerging from a destroyed city.

In 1961, when Oijens produced this work, Europe was glued to the ‘Berlin Crisis’, which created global unease and ultimately the creation of the Berlin Wall. Perhaps these events had soaked into his psyche and influenced this work. Interesting.
