This mid-20th-century oil on canvas by Swedish artist Carsten Ström (1913-1995) depicts two fishermen tending to their nets on the beach at Abbekås, Sweden. It’s rendered with a strong emphasis on line and carries a primal quality - as if inspired by prehistoric cave paintings.
Ström was an interesting artist who trained at the Reimann School of Art and Design in Berlin and later at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. He held numerous solo exhibitions including at Malmö City Hall.
